Description
The Manor Cottage is a shop with offices above, originally a house, dating from the early to mid 19th century. It features rendered walls and slate roofs, and is divided into two parts: an older three-storey section on the right and a later two-storey section on the left, both aligned in the same plane.
The older range has two casement windows on the second floor with margin-pane glazing, and three first-floor windows in a configuration of one, two, and one lights, all with diamond panes set in cast iron. The ground floor has a full-width 20th-century display window with a door, and there is a stack on the left gable. The lower range includes two 2-light casements with horizontal bars above a full-width 20th-century shop front with a door, and a plain return to the left.
The main gable on the right side has a 2-light margin-pane casement on the second floor, another on the first floor, and a doorway leading to an external staircase. The ground floor features a 20th-century display window. The building is quite shallow in depth and is situated against the rising slope of Mars Hill. The interior has not been inspected. An early photograph by Loveless shows the ground floor of the three-storey range with a single sash window. The property suffered damage during the floods of 1952.
