Description
Deddington Salerooms and Wells House is a shop and dwelling, now used as a shop and offices, likely built in the late 17th century and enlarged in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels and features a roof made of clay plain tiles and concrete plain tiles, with brick stacks. It has an L-shaped layout with a house and shop range, standing two storeys plus an attic.
The front of the house has a regular two-window arrangement, rising from a moulded plinth. It features a recessed central six-panel door in a moulded frame with an overlight, and the ground-floor openings have stop-chamfered lintels. The steep-pitched roof includes a large gabled roof dormer and a parapet on the right gable, with stacks at both ends that extend over the shop range. The mid-19th century projecting shop front has large arched lights that angle inward to a central double door. The first-floor windows consist of one, three, and three lights, all with 19th-century casements featuring Tudor-arched lights.
At the rear, a wing of the house extends from the left and has a parallel range adjoining the back of the shop. Inside, there is a winder stair and mid-19th century plaster cornices and joinery.
