Description
The Rising Sun Hotel (part) is a house located at the end of a row in Lynmouth, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features a rendered exterior with a slate-hung left gable and a concrete tile roof. The building has three storeys and a three-window range, with all windows being 2-light wood casements that include a horizontal bar, except for the ground floor which has small panes. There is a central 20th-century door set in a 'rustic' gabled porch. The rusticated quoins mentioned in previous listings have been removed. The left gable has two openings leading to a balcony above a 20th-century extension. Both gable stacks have been cropped to ridge level. The right gable is notably higher than the adjacent No. 3 due to the slope of the site and features a small 2-light casement at the second-floor level. The interior was partly inspected but revealed nothing of special interest. Originally a separate house, it has been part of the Rising Sun Hotel since 1993 and is a prominent feature of the street scene.
