Description

The Bath Hotel, with Pixie Dell, is a small villa that has been converted into a hotel. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with significant extensions added in the late 19th century. The building is rendered and has a hipped slate roof. The original structure is a small two-storey range featuring a central gable that is slightly protruding. The front has three windows, with 12-pane sash windows on the first floor and canted hipped bays on the ground floor that include French doors and side lights. These bays flank a small 9-pane light with an arched head, which was formerly the doorway.

To the left, there is a three-storey, three-window range with small gables that have decorative barge-boards above the second-floor windows. The ground floor of this section includes a large glazed extension. On the right side, there is another large range that is stepped forward and features a full-height octagonal bay on the left. The windows throughout the building are a mix of casements, most of which have transoms.

The earlier part of the building reflects the initial scale of hotel development in Lynmouth, while the later 19th-century extensions are not included in the listing due to their more recent date and level of alteration. Historically, Pixie Dell is associated with the early Halliday estate buildings and is believed to have served as a bath house. The Reverend W. Halliday originally lived in Clooneavin, located on the cliffs above Lynmouth, before constructing Glenthorne House.
