Description

The Lynmouth Bridge Hotel is a villa that has been converted into a hotel, dating from the early 19th century. It features a rendered exterior and a slate roof. The building has a symmetrical front facing east and acts as a stop at the end of the block of buildings between Lynmouth Street and Riverside Road. It is two storeys high with a three-window front.

On the first floor, there are three plain sash windows, while the ground floor has a deep two-light small-pane casement window on the left and a canted bay window on the right, which contains four 12-pane sashes and has a hipped slate roof with a small central gablet. The entrance door is located under a later gabled porch, and the central bay is slightly stepped forward, featuring a scalloped barge-board and a drop finial on a hipped roof.

To the right, there is an added bay that returns right in three bays to the street front, with two-light small-pane casements above a rubble wall that has mid-20th century fenestration. The left return has an original two-light small-pane casement above 20th-century doors. A stack is located at the center of the rear.

Inside, the hotel has been altered, but the ground floor still retains some original cornicing and joinery. Before the flood in 1952, this building, along with its neighbors, faced Lynmouth Street to the south, with the rear directly adjacent to the river. Riverside Road was created after the flood when the riverbed was moved to the north.
