Description

No. 8, North Street is a house and shop, likely dating from the early 18th century but with considerable 19th-century alterations. The ground floor is constructed of stone, while the upper floor is painted brick. The building has vertical, V-shaped brick quoins, a stone eaves cornice, and a Welsh slate roof with coped gables and brick end stacks. It is two-and-a-half storeys high, with a three-window front. The upper floor has two small, two-light hipped dormers above 12-pane sash windows. These windows are contained within brick segmental heads with a stone key, and stone sills with a decorative projecting moulding, are set in broad sash boxes. The ground floor features a full-width 19th-century shop front with cast-iron columns supporting a canted bay. To the left of the bay are set-back 19th-century glazed doors, and to the right, a plate-glass window. All are set under a continuous fascia with consoled pilasters. The interior has not been inspected.
