Description

This early 19th-century house and shop forms part of a terrace on High Street. It is constructed of fine limestone ashlar, accentuated by four Doric pilasters resting on bases that are curtailed by a large, continuous shop fascia. The roof is largely covered in Welsh slate, with some areas tiled. The building has two storeys and a 1:3:2 window arrangement. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in reveals. The central bay has a blank opening. A full-width shop front is situated between consoled pilasters, incorporating 19th-century plate glass windows and a recessed, glazed 19th-century door in the centre. To the far left is a panelled, part-glazed door with a small, plain window above it. The lower part of the shop front, featuring the large display windows, is representative of hardware stores from the later 19th century and alters the finer composition of the upper floor.
