Description
Wesley House is a house and restaurant located on the south-east side of High Street in Winchcombe. It dates back to the 16th century and features heavy timber framing with two gables facing the street, topped with a roof made of stone slates in two sections. The ground floor is rendered, and the original moulded bressummer is now built into the left half of the building. A deep wing extends back to the right. The building has two storeys and is two-windowed. The left gable includes a canted oriel supported by brackets, featuring a slated roof and a three-light casement window, while the right gable has 20th-century mullioned and transomed wooden display windows on the ground floor. All windows are fitted with 20th-century lead glazing in hexagonal panes. Centrally, there is a pair of 20th-century glazed doors. The house is named Wesley House because it is believed that John Wesley stayed here in 1779 on his way to Tewkesbury.
