Description
The Old Bakery is a house and shop located at the end of a row on a street corner in Winchcombe, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a plinth, a deep plain string course at the first floor, and alternating v-joint quotas. The building has a coved stone eaves cornice and a coped gable. The front roof slope is covered with concrete tiles, while the back slope and hipped back extension have stone slate roofing.
The main façade has two storeys and an attic, with a two-window arrangement. Above the first floor, there is a single small gabled 2-light leaded casement dormer. The first floor contains two sashes with glazing bars set in broad chamfered and stopped surrounds. On the ground floor, there are two 18th-century sashes with bars in 19th-century unchamfered surrounds, along with a central six-panel moulded door. The left return gable is made of squared and coursed stone, mostly plain, but it includes a small light adjacent to the fireplace at ground floor level. The interior features a cellar and original roofing, though it has been significantly modified otherwise. The back of the building includes one 2-light chamfered mullion casement.
