Description

Bleby House is a large house located at the end of a row on Abbey Terrace in Winchcombe. It dates back to the 16th century but underwent significant rebuilding in the early 19th century. The exterior features squared and coursed limestone with a slight plinth, and a Welsh slate mansard roof with coped gables and rebuilt gable stacks. The house has two storeys, a basement, and an attic, with a three-windowed façade. The segmental-headed dormers have sash windows, and the ground and first floors feature 16-pane sashes, all with glazing bars. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door beneath a fanlight with margin bars, framed by a moulded arch surround and a pediment on consoles. This entrance is approached by five steps that lead through a wrought iron overthrow, which includes a central lantern supported by square weathered limestone bases with Anthonian finials. To the left, there are steps leading down to a former cellar entrance. Inside, the house contains 19th-century doors and shutters. At the basement level, the former back wall features a 16th-century two-arched opening with a flat surround, impost caps, and a wave-mould chamfer with keystones; the left-hand arch has a lion's head. There is also a similar opening on the return wall to the left, which previously connected to an adjacent property.
