Description

The White Hart is an inn, largely dating to the late 19th century, with some fabric from the 17th century. It is constructed of rendered timber framing, with a stone slate roof and brick stacks featuring rich, coursed cappings. The building’s left side features a 17th-century cross-mullioned window positioned above a 19th-century three-light transomed casement. The main façade has three bays of three-light transomed casements at the first floor; the first bay is set under a gable, and another has a ten-light bay with a stone slate lean-to roof sheltering the central entrance door. A five-light bay is situated below a three-light oriel window. A return wing to the right rises steeply down Castle Street and incorporates a three-storey limestone ashlar wing. The building is primarily listed for its group value.
