Description
This barn, located approximately 50 meters south of the Church of St John the Baptist at Middle Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century and has been partly rebuilt and reduced in size. The north side features 19th-century square panelled timber framing with red brick infill, while the rest of the structure is constructed from 19th-century brick with a limestone plinth and a pantile roof. The barn has a rectangular plan and displays carpenter's marks on the exterior of the timber-framed north wall. The south side includes lozenge-shaped ventilation panels. Inside, the barn originally had four bays but now has three, supported by three 18th-century king post roof trusses, which also show carpenter's marks and raking struts. The roof features double purlins with straight bracing, and there is a flagged threshing floor at the east end.
