Description
This barn, dating from the early 17th century with some alterations from the 18th century, is aligned north-south and located 20 metres north of the Church of St. Mary. It features eight bays and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding, while the north gable retains some early or original plaster. The roof is partly covered with pantiles and partly with Roman pantiles. There are 19th-century boarded barn doors at bays 3 and 6. The barn has widely-spaced studwork with arch stud-bracing, which was enhanced in the 18th century. It has a clasped-purlin roof, with the first three trusses from the north being arch-braced, while the remaining trusses at the south end have 18th or 19th-century knees. Bays 6 to 8 from the north show signs of partitioning and original upper floors, indicating they were likely built for stabling. Additionally, there are various 19th-century lean-to extensions on the west side.
