Description
Long Cottage is a house built in two stages, featuring an early 17th century parlour block that was once connected to a hall range on the right, which has since been demolished. To the left is a two-cell range from the 18th century. The 17th century block has two storeys with an attic, while the 18th century range is one storey with attics. The building is timber-framed and plastered, with some 18th century herringbone pargetting. The roofs are covered with concrete pantiles; the left-hand range was originally thatched, and the right-hand block has plain tiles. There are gable dormers with 20th century small-pane casements. A 17th century axial chimney made of red brick features a moulded plinth and is now plastered. The entrance door is mainly a 20th century glazed panelled design, accompanied by a lean-to brick porch. Inside, the tie-beam and wall plates of the 17th century block have carved brackets, and there are well-preserved 17th century close-studding, ovolo-moulded main beams, along with an original newel staircase. The roof structure includes a two-tier wind-braced butt purlin design.
