Description

Little Stonham Hall is a farmhouse that was formerly a manor house, with its origins dating back to the early 17th century and significant remodelling occurring in the early 19th century. The building has two storeys and features a central range that is slightly set forward, consisting of three windows, flanked by two blocks with one window each. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a hipped concrete plaintiled roof that has axial chimneys made of red brick.

The hall showcases a moulded wooden eaves cornice with paired modillions and a low parapet. Above the central range, there is an open pediment that is similarly moulded, featuring a lunette window with radiating bars in the tympanum. The windows are mainly 19th-century small-pane sashes. The entrance is flanked by pairs of French doors adorned with a cornice and fluted pilasters. The early 19th-century entrance doorway consists of a pair of three-panelled doors with fielded panels and reveals, fluted pilasters, an open modillioned pediment, and a semi-circular fanlight with curved glazing bars.

Inside, at the right-hand end, there are some 17th-century ovolo-moulded beams, while other areas display a little unmoulded framing, indicating that the parlour cell of the 17th-century house was located at this end. The early 19th-century additions at the rear have resulted in a double-pile plan, which includes a staircase topped with a large dome-light. Additionally, there is a partial associated medieval moat surrounding the property.
