Description

The gateposts and sundial, located about 27 meters south of Snowshill Manor, date from around 1720 and were likely created for W. Sambach. They are made of ashlar stone and feature wooden gates. The two gate piers are designed to be viewed as one approaches the house, with rusticated pilasters against an ashlar face, a moulding, a pulvinated frieze, a moulded cap, a step, and a cyma leading to a ball finial. Between the gate piers are a pair of framed wooden doors that have a centre rail, a swept top, and diamond-set bars in both panels. To the left stands a square ashlar pier of similar height, which has a moulding forming a base for a tall block that was formerly a sundial, but as of 1986, it is missing its gnomon. This structure forms a group with the Manor and the garden wall.
