Description
The Warren and Warne monuments are chest tombs located against the south buttress at the east end of the chancel in the Church of St Barnabas. These tombs date from the 17th century and are made of stone. The double tomb, which is adjacent to the church, commemorates Ane Warren and features one other inscription without a date. It has a flat lid with a chamfered edge, and the ends consist of two square slabs framed with plain edge moulding. The sides are plain with a chamfered base, and there is lettering in capitals on the west end, some of which is run together.
The monument on the south side is dedicated to Thomas Warne. It has a thick, flat lid with a plain chamfer, and the south side includes a long panel with moulding at the top and bottom, which carries an inscription that has been reduced at both ends, losing parts of the text. The monument is framed by plain block ends, with the north side being plain and the ends featuring recessed panels, including an inscription on the west one. The base has a chamfered plinth.
