Description

Manor Cottages comprises three attached cottages located in Snowshill Village. The building dates to the 17th century, with further development in the 18th century and a partial enlargement in the 19th century, alongside alterations in the mid-to-late 20th century. The construction utilizes roughly squared, coursed stone, incorporating thinner courses with large quoins at the left end, and features a stone slate roof.

The cottages form a continuous range, one room deep, with slight rear wings at the right end and a length of ten windows. A section to the right of centre is raised to two storeys. Mid-to-late 20th-century windows are present in the left section, with a boarded door featuring a cantilevered stone lintel above the opening. To the right of this, a metal two-light window with leaded lights and a similar lintel is visible, alongside a vertical joint in the stonework. Other windows include a three-light casement with a timber lintel, a two-light mullioned window, a boarded door and two-light casement window, both with timber lintels. Dormers are above, with five gabled dormers incorporating two-light casements; the left two maintain earlier metal opening lights and leaded lights. An ashlar chimney with a moulded cap sits on the ridge above the vertical joint, with a further chimney located behind the second dormer.

A two-story block to the right features a boarded stable door under a deep stone lintel, a small-pane Yorkshire-sliding sash with a timber lintel, and raised eaves containing a metal casement window and a half-hipped roof. A chimney is set against the gable on the right. To the right again, the original height is evident, displaying a Yorkshire-sliding sash, a small-pane window replacing a doorway behind a deep stone lintel, a boarded door with a timber lintel, a 20th-century wooden casement with small panes under a deep stone lintel, and a four-light mullion window with a hoodmould and original iron casements. A boarded door sits under a lean-to wooden porch with boarded and trellis sides, and is followed by a two-light mullioned window. Four gabled dormers are above, each with 20th-century metal casements. A chimney with a moulded cap is on the ridge and a diagonally-set chimney is at the rear to the right. The left section originally featured only two dormers; the roof has since been raised to the end bay. The building forms a group with No 4 Manor Cottages and Snowshill Manor.
