Description
Jenner Hut, located in the garden of The Chantry, is a rustic hut dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and rubblestone, topped with a thatched roof that has a semi-domical shape. The front wall, facing south, features applied rustic tree trunks that frame the entrance, which consists of a pointed arch plank door adorned with rustic timber decoration. On the north wall, there is a small two-light window, and part of a brick stack is visible on the west wall. This hut is sometimes referred to as the "Temple of Vaccinia," as it is where Dr. Edward Jenner conducted his first vaccination against smallpox in 1796.
