Description
Saniger Farmhouse is a large farmhouse with a core dating back to the 17th century, featuring additions on both sides that likely date from the late 17th to early 18th century on the right and the early 19th century on the left. The building is roughcast with a slate roof and includes one large double-flued stone ridge stack with a moulded cornice, along with three brick stacks.
The main range has a through passage and displays two original central gables, a two-storey cross-gabled porch, and a larger added gable to the right, with an extension of the ridge to the left. The farmhouse stands two storeys high with an attic. Each of the original gables has one window on each floor, primarily featuring 3-light recessed splayed wood mullions. The left wing has two 12-pane 19th-century sash windows set in reveals, while the steep gable wing to the right has two long 4-pane 19th-century sash windows in moulded wooden frames.
The central two-storey porch is adorned with stone ball finials on each of its three gables and has a 20th-century wood mullion and transom style window above a square-headed opening. The door to the house consists of three large fielded panels. Above the window, there is an oval plaque inscribed with the date 1718 and the initials ES, surrounded by foliage inlaid in the roughcast.
Additionally, there are a pair of gate piers made of rusticated stone, each with moulded cornices and large stone ball finials, standing about 2.5 metres high. These piers are connected by a scrolled bracket to a stepped junction with a coped coursed rubble stone wall that curves out on each side and across the front of the house.
