Description
PAINSWICK TIBBIWELL SO 8609 (part ) (east side) 8/319 No 2 Tibbiwell Antiques (formerly listed as House adjoining the Cross to the South (Archer) GV II Narrow frontage house in row, with shop. C17 or earlier. Large squared dressed limestone block to saddle-backed coped gable, Welsh slate roof, replacing stone slate. Deep plan with through passage to the right; set forward from Cardynham (qv) to left and set back from Upper Cottage (qv) to right. Two storeys and attic, one bay; at ground floor a 3-light C20 casement set well below a continuous moulded string which returns left over a small light. At first floor a 3-light recessed chamfer stone mullioned casement to slopped hood, with small light, to left return; in gable a 2-light similar casement. Small stack with capping to apex of gable. Far right is an arched opening with plain surround to keystone and impost caps; this gives to a stone flagged throughway, and has a good plank and fillet C17 door. Interior has the shop floor at lower level than pavement and throughway; shop has wide-spaced timber-frame partition, now glazed and two chamfered and stopped spine beams. At back is a transverse deep chamfered beam over a bressumer fireplace. Upper levels not inspected, stair- case is probably back, right.
