Description
Church Cottage is a dwelling built around 1840, possibly designed by Thomas Folljames. It features coursed limestone rubble with flush quoins and a concrete plain tile roof. The cottage has some rough-cast work on the plinth and south gable, along with two ashlar gable stacks. It is designed in a T-plan Gothick style and has two storeys with one-windowed gables. The left wing, which is visible from the return to Hopton Road, includes various one or two-light chamfered stone surround and mullion casements, some with pointed or segmental heads and drips. There is a large late 20th-century dormer on the north roof slope and a modern lean-to porch with a door in the re-entrant angle, accessed from Church Road. This building is a notable example of 19th-century Cotswold 'Tudor' architecture, situated at the important junction of Church Road with Hopton Road and Springhill, and it remains largely in its original state.
