Description
The Congregational Chapel, formerly listed as Congregational Church, is a mid-18th century building located on Church Road in Cam. It features painted rubble construction and a double roman tile half-hipped roof. The chapel is two storeys high with three windows, which have pointed wood casements adorned with Y-tracery. To the right, there is a pair of six-panel doors set under a pointed arch, also with Y-tracery.
To the left of the chapel is a large classroom wing built in brick in 1895. Inside, the chapel has a U-plan balcony supported by slender 'Batty Langlay' cast iron columns, with a panelled front. The balcony features a semi-circular rail with widely spaced twisted balusters and steps leading to a central pulpit, all finely panelled, painted, and grained. Below the balcony, there are potch-pine pews that are curved to follow the shape of the gallery above. The ceiling is flat and plastered, with a central rosette, and there is a pointed arch entry from the classrooms to the left of the pulpit.
