Description

The Lodge and Vicarage Cottage are a pair of dwellings, likely dating from the late 17th century, with significant reconstruction in the 19th century. They are built of squared and coursed stone, with a concrete tile roof. The layout is a small T-plan, with a lower roofed section to the left and a large Cotswold-style gable to the left of the main block. There are three stacks in limestone ashlar, with moulded cappings, including a large stack with a wide base to the left gable of the higher unit. The buildings have 1½ storeys and a 1+1 window arrangement. The front features a 2-light casement with leading under a segmental head on the left, a one-light over a 2-light stone hollow chamfer mullioned window under moulded and stopped drips to the gable, and a mid-20th century glazed door and porch on the right. A return gable on the right contains two 2-light stone hollow chamfer mullioned windows, also under moulded and stopped drips. The buildings are raised on an embankment above Church Road and are a prominent feature in the street scene, particularly when approached from the east.
