Description
The Bell Inn is an inn that has been recorded as such since 1740 but was rebuilt in the early 19th century. It features a brick structure built on an ashlar plinth above a rubble layer, with a moulded stone cornice and a lead-covered stone blocking course. The roof is shallow pitched and covered with slate, featuring coped verges and brick end stacks topped with moulded stone caps, along with a catslide roof at the rear.
The main range consists of three storeys, with a small set-back single-storey wing to the right that has a tile roof and two large 24 small pane sash windows. The building has three windows on the second floor with 8-pane sashes, while the other floors have 16-pane sashes, all framed with splayed brick voussoirs in contrasting red brick. The central round-headed doorway has slightly recessed double doors, each with three fielded panels, and is topped by a decorative fanlight. The brickwork still shows traces of the former stone Doric portico.
