Description

The H G Walklett premises is a house with a shop, dating from the mid-18th century, possibly raised in the 19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a concrete tile roof. The building features a symmetrical three-bay front with an additional bay on the left, which has a large opening leading to a throughway, suggesting it may have formerly served as an inn.

The structure stands three storeys tall. The ground floor has a plain square opening, followed by two large square openings with eared architraves and two separate keystones, as if intended for two distinct entrances. These openings contain 2-light plate glass casements, flanking a door. On the first floor, there is a combination of one and three plate glass sashes, all set within eared architraves featuring a keystone and plain cills supported by consoles. The second floor has three equally spaced sashes with a configuration of 12:16:12 panes.

A notable feature is the stone Roman Doric doorcase, which includes a segmental pediment adorned with egg-and-dart enrichment on one of the mouldings, and it contains a 20th-century half-glazed door. The building has gable stacks, with the one on the right having been rebuilt. At the back, there is a wing with V-joint quoins and a tall 2½ storey long wing that has a large ridge stack, rising along the slope of the ground. The interior has not been inspected.
