Description

This is a late 17th-century building on Dyer Street, Cirencester, with later alterations and additions to the rear. It was originally an optician's shop with accommodation above. The exterior is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble, with an artificial slate roof. There is a rebuilt brick stack at the left end and two brick stacks on the left side of the rear wing, which dates back to the 17th century. The front has one gabled elevation and features four windows. The first floor has two two-light stone mullion-and-transom windows with leaded lights on the left side; to the right are two late 18th or early 19th-century two-light leaded casements in plain reveals with stone sills. A two-light mullion-and-transom stone window with leaded lights is set into the gable in the centre. The ground floor has a 20th-century recessed shopfront with concrete lintels and stone piers, featuring bow windows with 7x3 and 5x3 panes, one 6-pane fixed light, and two 9-pane glazed doors, all set on a reconstituted stone stall riser. A 17th-century gabled rear wing features timber framing to the first-floor side elevation, and there are large 20th-century extensions to the rear. The interior has undergone 20th-century alterations and was not inspected.
