Description

56 and 58 Dyer Street is a building that likely started as a single house but is now divided into two, with No. 56 housing a dental surgery. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed from coursed squared limestone, topped with a stone slate hipped roof, while the rear and rear extension feature Welsh slate. There are two brick axial stacks at the rear, set on stone gablets, and a brick ridge stack on the rear wing.

The building is three stories tall and has a three-window range. The first floor features three 6/6-pane horned sash windows with plain reveals and stone cills, while the second floor has three similar 3/6-pane sashes above. On the ground floor, No. 58 has a 20th-century plate glass window in a plain reveal with a projecting stone cill to the left, and No. 56 has a late 20th-century plate glass shop front to the right. The central entrance for No. 56 consists of a 6-panel door with a single-pane overlight in a plain reveal. No. 58 has a 6-panel door with the upper two panels glazed, set under a decorative fanlight in a round-headed plain opening within a single-storey lean-to extension to the left. The building features a shallow plinth and flush quoins at the left angle, along with a two-storey extension and a two-storey gabled wing at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
