Description

No. 7 Dyer Street is a shop and office building with an entrance to a shopping mall, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble with ashlar dressings at the front, while the rear is finished in cement render, and the rear wing is also made of coursed limestone rubble. The building features a hipped parapeted roof covered in Welsh slate, with an artificial slate covering on the rear slope and a hipped roof on the rear wing. The main range has two brick stacks at the right end.

The building is three stories high and has a three-window range. The first floor includes three 6/6-pane sash windows set in cement-rendered surrounds with stone sills. The second floor has three similar 3/6-pane sashes in matching surrounds. On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century plate glass shop window and a glazed door to the right, while a former carriage entrance with an elliptical arched opening to the left now serves as the entrance to the shopping mall. There is a blocked former doorway to the far left. A band course runs above the ground floor, and there is a cill band at the second floor.

The rear elevation features 20th-century top-hung lights on the first and second floors. The rear wing has two segmental arched openings on the left side at the first floor, one containing a 19th-century three-light timber casement and the other blocked. The ground floor of the rear wing has two 20th-century shop windows and two half-glazed doors. The rear elevation of the wing includes 20th-century windows on the ground and first floors, with the first floor set in a broad segmental arched opening. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have undergone 20th-century alterations, with openings on the first floor suggesting a possible former workshop use.
