Description
A row of shops with residential flats above, dating to the mid to late 18th century, with possible origins earlier than that, and 19th-century additions to the rear. The front is rendered with stucco, while the rear wing is constructed of coursed squared limestone, with a brick lean-to. The roofs are covered in Welsh slate, and there's a stone and brick axial stack at the rear of the main range. Additional brick stacks are present on the rear wing, one truncated and one acting as a ridge stack. The building is three storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and has a four-window facade. The first floor features four six-pane sash windows in plain reveals; the second floor has a matching set of windows. The ground floor contains two 20th-century shopfronts. The shopfront on the right (No. 38) is within a late 19th/early 20th-century surround, with console brackets, a frieze, and a dentil cornice. A four-panel door in the centre opens into a passage leading to the rear of the building. Two hipped dormers are visible, each containing a 19th-century two-light timber casement window. A plat band runs above the first floor, and a moulded timber fascia board defines the eaves. The interiors were not inspected.
