Description
43 and 45 Dollar Street are two houses, currently serving as a house and a doctor's surgery, built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The buildings are constructed from limestone ashlar with stucco on the sides and coursed squared limestone at the rear. They feature a stone slate double-pile hipped roof with a parapet. No. 43 has two ashlar stacks on gablets, both of which have been partially rebuilt in concrete blockwork, along with a rendered ridge stack. No. 45 has two ashlar stacks at the right end.
These townhouses are three storeys high, with an attic and cellars, and they present a seven-window range. The first floor has six 6/6-pane sash windows with plain reveals and stone cills, along with one similar window in the staircage to the right. The second floor contains six 3/3-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has five 6/6-pane sash windows. There is one gabled dormer, although its glazing is not visible from the street.
The entrances include two 6-panel doors in round-headed openings: one to the left with a fanlight for No. 43, and another to the right in the addition for the staircase. The cellar has three openings, one of which is largely blocked in No. 45. The buildings have a shallow plinth, with band courses over the ground and first floors, a moulded stone cornice, and a coped parapet. The staircage to the right also features a band course over the ground floor, a moulded stone cornice, and a coped parapet. A lead down-pipe with a moulded lead hopper-head is located at the centre. The interiors have not been inspected.
