Description
Avening Cottage is an early 18th-century building that has been altered. It stands two storeys high with an attic and is constructed of painted rubble, topped with a modern tile roof. The left side of the cottage is rendered and dates from the mid-19th century, featuring one window on the first floor and an angled bay on the ground floor, both with glazing bar sashes. The central part of the cottage has an attic gable with a two-light mullion window that includes a drip, along with two altered windows below that still retain a common drip, featuring later sashes. There is a door to the left and an extension on the right with one window, also with glazing bar sashes. Additionally, there is a two-storey extension facing Butcher Hill's Lane, which includes one window and an angled section with a continuation of two plus one windows. The cottage is significant for its informal grouping at the corner of Brewery Lane and Butcher Hill's Lane.
