Description

Culver Cottage comprises a pair of former almshouses, now converted into two houses, built in 1821. The structure is of coursed rubble limestone, with rendered chimneys and a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high. The front elevation has a three-window arrangement, with pointed Gothick windows featuring plain architraves, timber Y-tracery, iron casements and intersecting leading. A central pointed doorway provides access to a recessed plank double door, now replaced with two 20th-century doors within an internal porch. The building is finished with a crenellated parapet and gable end chimneys with plain caps. The interior remains uninspected. Culver Cottage was built by David Ricardo of Gatcombe Park.
