Description
No 1 High Street is a shop with a flat located at the end of a row, dating from the late 18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of random rubble limestone, featuring an ashlar chimney that has been rebuilt in concrete block, and it has a stone slate roof. It is two stories high with an attic. The rear addition, which has a flat roof, is a 20th-century feature and is not considered of special interest.
The front of the building includes a 20th-century shop bay window and canopy on the ground floor. On the upper floor, there are two 12-pane sash windows with a combined timber lintel, and there is some evidence of an altered opening to the left. Additionally, there is one eaves-mounted gabled dormer that has a leaded iron casement. The south end of the building has a hipped roof, and there is a 20th-century spiral staircase leading to the flat, along with a rubble-built yard wall. The interior has not been inspected. Despite the alterations, the building is included for its group value and to complete the fourth corner of the principal crossroads.
