Description
Murrays of Minchinhampton is a house and shop located on a street corner in Minchinhampton, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a refronting from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, which is all painted, and features ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. It is two stories tall with an attic and has an L-shaped plan.
The north front has a facetted curve at the street corner on the left, with three upper floor 12-pane sash windows, and three additional 12-pane sashes to the right, all with a sill band. The later shop front primarily faces north but wraps around the corner. To the right, two former ground floor sash window openings now contain plain shop windows. There are two gabled attic dormers with timber casements, and the roof is hipped at the corner.
The east front, facing Well Hill, has a three-window arrangement, all featuring 12-pane sashes. There is a roughly central doorway with a recessed door and one gabled attic dormer. The building has three ridge-mounted chimneys with moulded caps. The interior has not been inspected. The property holds an important position at the crossroads.
