Description

This is a row of eight houses located in Friday Street, Minchinhampton. The core of the buildings dates to the mid-to-late 17th century, with one section rebuilt in the early 19th century. The construction is primarily of random rubble limestone, with rebuilt chimneys of ashlar concrete block and artificial stone, and a stone slate roof. Most of the houses are single-storey with attics, although numbers 10, 12, and 14 are two-storey. Rear extensions have been added to the properties.

The front of the row presents a long facade with varied window arrangements, some of which have been altered. Number 8 retains two-light and a former three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement windows with hoodmoulds; a later doorway has been inserted into part of the three-light window. Restored two-light casement windows are present at numbers 10 and 12. Numbers 16 and 18 have chamfered mullioned casement windows with hoodmoulds. Numerous eaves-level gabled dormers are visible, each with different casement windows. The ridge-mounted chimneys have largely been rebuilt. The interiors were not inspected during the listing process. The row is notable for its length and makes a significant contribution to the character of the townscape.
