Description

No. 20 is a house situated on the end of a row, dating to the late 17th century, with an early 19th-century rebuilding or re-fronting of the rear wing. It's constructed from random rubble limestone, with ashlar detailing on the wing and ashlar chimneys. The roof is covered in stone slates. The building is two storeys high with an attic.

The right-hand gable end of the original 17th-century section has two small stair-lights, one of which is blocked. A gable end chimney is topped with a moulded cap. The wing to the left has two windows on the front facade. The ground-floor window is a tripartite sash with glazing bars, and it incorporates a doorway with a six-panel door on its right side. The upper floor has two 12-pane sashes. A moulded eaves cornice continues with a blocking course, behind which is a dormer window.

The west end features a leaded fixed-light window on the ground floor with a blocked doorway to its left. There’s a two-light chamfered mullioned casement window above, complete with a hoodmould. The eaves line appears to have been raised, likely during the early 19th-century alterations. The interior has not been inspected.

Attached spear-topped iron railings have principal posts topped with urn finials and a matching gate. The house is part of a row attached to the rear wing, extending to Nos. 22 to 28.
