Description

Well Cottage comprises two houses built in the mid-18th century, situated in a row on the south side of Tetbury Street, Minchinhampton. The houses are constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with a rebuilt brick chimney and a stone slate roof. The two-storey houses have attics. Each house has a two-window front elevation. The upper floors feature timber cross-windows with leaded iron casements. The ground floor of No. 26 has two segmental arched timber cross-windows, while the central doorway has a segmental arched surround and a plank door. No. 24 incorporates a central doorway with a six-panel door, a rectangular light above, and a flat porch hood. A canted bay window with sashes is a 19th-century addition. Coved stone eaves run along the top of the building. Each house has a single gabled dormer with a leaded casement window. A central ridge-mounted chimney is present. The interior was not inspected. A central segmental arched recess contains a well and hoist mechanism. Spear-topped iron railings with matching gates provide access to the well.
