Description
The Church of St Bartholomew is an Anglican parish church designed by George Madan in 1844. It is constructed from fine squared and dressed Cotswold limestone and features a stone slate roof. The church includes a nave with an octagonal bell turret at the east end, a south aisle and porch, and a chancel, all designed in a decorated style. Notable architectural details include a cornice adorned with wide-spaced ball-flower ornament, windows that are either two or three lights, and a four-light east window with some flamboyant tracery. The nave has five bays supported by quadrilobed piers with variegated floral capitals and double chamfer arches, topped by a hammer-beam roof. The chancel features an arch-braced roof. The floor is tiled in an alternating diagonal pattern of dark brown and white. Inside, there is an octagonal font, pitch-pine pews, and a delicate open wood screen. The porch is highlighted by a pointed barrel vault and heavy transverse ribs.
