Description

Walnut Tree Cottage is a detached house dating to the late 17th century, situated in Horsley Upper Barton End. The construction is of random rubble limestone with a brick chimney and a stone slate roof. It is a two-storey house with an attic, and has lower outbuildings attached to the southwest end. The small, rectangular house was very overgrown during a survey in October 1986. The visible north-west (road) side features a ground-floor, two-light chamfered mullioned casement window and a single-light window with leaded lattice. A further window is present to the left, with lath and plaster infilling. The north-east gable end is completely overgrown, but likely contains a gable-mounted chimney. A 19th-century outbuilding is located at the southwest end and has brick-dressed window openings with casements. The interior has not been inspected. The building holds group value from the period.
