Description

Holmridge and Post Office is a house and shop dating from the mid-17th century, with early 19th-century additions. It is constructed of random rubble with roughcast render and coursed rubble limestone, featuring ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high with an attic, and a two-story shop wing that projects forward from the south end.

The front originally had a two-window arrangement, though one window is now blocked by a 20th-century flat-roofed addition that is not of special interest. The upper floor has two three-light recessed cavetto mullioned casements, while the ground floor features a four-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement to the left. There is a central doorway with a flat timber porch hood supported by brackets, and above it, a timber fixed-light window has been inserted. The roof has three eaves-mounted gabled dormers with timber casements. The chimney at the north gable end has paired diagonal shafts with moulded caps.

At the south end, a lower gabled wing projects forward and includes a 12-pane sash window above the shop window. The rear of the building shows mullioned fenestration on the original range, with an early 19th-century wing added to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
