Description
The Cottage is a detached house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone with rendered brick chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two stories tall with an attic.
On the west front, there are two full gables and a two-window arrangement featuring chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds, including both two and three-light windows. Above the main attic casements, there is a smaller single-light window, each with a flat hood. The ground floor includes a casement and a window in the lower garage wing to the right, which are 20th-century restorations.
The north end of the house is built against a high-level road and has a gable-mounted chimney. The east side features two full gables with scattered fenestration, including a central ground floor four-light casement with a hoodmould and two-light casements on the upper floors. There are also two blocked doorways to the right, one leading to the upper floor and one to the attic, which likely originally had external stairs. The interior has not been inspected. The Cottage is part of a group with the Old White Hart.
