Description

Quarry Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed from squared and coursed stone, topped with a concrete tile roof, although some double Roman tiles are present on the reverse slope. The building is designed in an L-plan with brick stacks finished to coped gables. The main entrance is located to the left of the gable, leading into an adjoining wing. A later gabled wing has been added inside the L shape. The farmhouse has two storeys, attics, and a part basement beneath the left wing.

The north elevation features four windows, each with two-light stone mullions set under a continuous drip to stops at both levels, although the second window at each level is blocked. The east elevation includes two two-light mullioned windows under a common drip at both the ground and first floors, a single two-light window at the second floor, and a Cotswold oval stone oculus at the apex of the gable, which has two different pitches. One first-floor window is blocked. In the wing leading to the loft, there is a two-light mullioned window under a timber lintel and above a blocked doorway, as well as a two-light window at the eaves next to a six-panel door, which is part-glazed and set in a deep reveal. This door and the single-light window are included under the continuous drip that covers the ground floor windows to the right.

Inside, the farmhouse features a straight 18th-century oak staircase with moulded risers and square newel posts topped with bal finials. In the ground floor room to the left in the 'old' wing, there is a fine open fire with solid stone cheeks and a spiral stair. The interior also contains many panelled doors, with a modern door at the end of the through passage set in a heavy frame. The stone-floored basement is located under the 'old' wing, and the original roof structure remains intact.
