Description

Tilsdown House is a large, detached dwelling dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of squared marlstone with a moulded wooden eaves cornice and a hipped roof covered in stone slates. The main block is compact, with two brick stacks on the rear wall, and a parallel brick range was added in the late 18th century. The house has two storeys and attics, with a five-window front featuring sash windows without bars, each set under a segmental head. There are three hipped, two-light casement dormers in the roof. The return gable has two sash windows with glazing bars. The central entrance has a six-panel door with a segmental-headed plain transom light sheltered by a shell hood on consoles. The rear wing features sash windows with brick rubbed voussoirs above. Internally, the house retains 18th-century shutters and panelled doors set within architraves.
