Description
Tilsdown Cottage is a 17th-century dwelling that was formerly two separate homes. It features painted rubble walls and a pantile roof, forming a long narrow block with two ridge stacks and a small 20th-century extension at the back. The left half of the cottage is 1½ storeys tall, while the right half is 2 storeys. The windows include various casements, with an original 4-light mullioned casement on the ground floor to the left of the entrance, and a modern 4-light casement above it. Most of the other windows are 2-light casements. The right half has a modern door set in a heavy moulded frame, centrally located between the windows, while there is a blocked door that has been converted into a window on the left side. Additionally, there is a small gabled dormer with a modern 2-light casement. The gables feature modern casements in their original openings, and there is a late 20th-century opening with doors leading to a lean-to conservatory on the left gable. Inside, there is a large open fireplace with a cropped bressumer and a bread oven located to the left of the entrance.
