Description
Gastrells Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse built in the late 18th century, with mid and late 19th-century additions. It features coursed and squared limestone with ashlar quoins, brick additions, rendered brick chimneys, and a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high, with a two-storey rear wing at the west end and a dairy addition at the east end.
The north front has scattered leaded casement windows with deep stone lintels. There are stone steps leading to an off-centre doorway, which has leaded glazing. The west end has a gable end with a ridge-mounted chimney and two tall 19th-century casements positioned differently on each floor. The side of the rear wing to the right has single-window fenestration with leaded casements, one of which is in a former doorway on the upper floor.
The east end features a gable end with a brick-built dairy addition to the left and a tall brick chimney at the junction. There is a 20th-century off-centre casement window with a stone lintel. At the back, there is a brick gable end to the left with a rendered ridge-mounted chimney. The side of the back wing has segmental arched leaded casements, and the gabled brick dairy to the right has a large late 19th-century segmental arched casement. A continuous lean-to connects the wings, and there are three upper floor leaded casements above with stone lintels.
The interior has not been inspected, but the farmhouse is noted as a little altered example of its date, retaining its complete original fenestration. It forms part of a group with a barn and a cider house.
