Description

This is an 18th-century cider house with an attached stable, located to the south-east of Gastrells Farmhouse. The building is constructed of coursed, squared, and random rubble limestone, with a replacement concrete tile roof and stone slate to the south slope. It comprises a cider room to the east and a stable to the west, with lofts above.

The north front has a plank door for the cider house and a stable door to the right; a shuttered opening is on the left, all with timber lintels. A loft hole is above. The east gable has a high-level loft doorway with a plank door and timber lintel, along with brick loft stairs fitted with an iron handrail. The west gable has a loft hole with a plank door and timber lintel. A 20th-century weatherboarded addition is not considered to be of special interest. The south side is built into a bank; the cider room has two openings with timber lintels, and a vent slit is present in the stable, alongside a loft opening with a plank door.

Inside the cider house, the cider mill and press remain complete and are still in use. The building forms part of a group with Gastrells Farmhouse and a nearby barn and is listed for its group value.
