Description

Maytree Cottage is a small detached house that likely originated in the late 16th century, with 17th century and 20th century additions. The building features timber framing, mostly brick infill, and random rubble limestone gable ends, along with brick additions and a brick chimney. It has a thatched roof and is a single storey with an attic, plus a single-storey addition at the north end.

On the east side, the original house is to the right, showcasing small framing on a high limestone plinth with brick coping. There are three 19th century ground floor casements and two thatched eyebrow dormers in the attic. The stone gable ends have deep sides, and a ridge-mounted brick chimney is present. The thatch features scalloped ridge decoration, and there is a corrugated lean-to roof on the 20th century north addition, which includes a glazed conservatory. A large 20th century addition on the south doubles the size of the house but retains the thatched eyebrow dormers and a porch.

The west side displays framing posts and small scattered rails that appear to be later 16th century, along with three small 19th century ground floor casements. The stone gable ends to the north and south are obscured by the additions, and much of the internal structure features timber framing.
