Description

Primrose Cottage is a detached house dating from the 16th century, with late 18th century and 20th century additions. It features a timber frame with brick infill and additions, brick chimneys, and a thatched roof. The building is a single storey with an attic and has a 20th century extension at the north end.

On the west elevation, there is a central lobby entry with a 20th century plank door and an open-framed porch that has a thatched roof. To the left, there is small framing with two leaded casements, one set in a 3-centred arched former doorway. The framing to the right appears to be of an earlier date and includes a 19th century casement with a leaded window above it in a thatched dormer. A short curved diagonal brace is located to the left of a 19th century hipped-roofed canted bay window, which is part of the 18th century brick addition to the right. The central ridge features a brick chimney, and the thatch has scalloped ridge decoration. To the left, there is a 20th century rendered addition with a thatched roof.

The south end of the cottage has a half hipped roof with a central projecting brick chimney. There are 20th century casements on both the left and right, and a single attic casement to the left of the chimney. The east elevation shows scattered small framing in the central part, with a doorway that has a 3-centred arched head and a small leaded casement at a blocked opening. There is a small leaded casement to the left and 20th century metal casements in the late 18th century addition, along with a 20th century casement in the thatched dormer. The interior retains much of its timber framing.
