Description
Wells Cottage is a detached house that dates back to the early 17th century and was enlarged in the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of random rubble limestone, features ashlar chimneys, and has a stone slate roof. It is two stories high with an attic.
The front of the house showcases a mix of mullioned windows. The left side is the older part, featuring two 2-light chamfered mullioned casements on the upper floor, each with hoodmoulds, and a 3-light window below. To the right, there are two 3-light casements set in rebuilt masonry with 20th-century fittings. The central doorway is topped by a 19th-century segmental pointed arched porch. There are two gabled roof dormers mounted at the eaves, which have leaded iron casements. A chimney is located above the porch, with additional chimneys at each gable end. The gable ends have single-window fenestration, and the east end includes a 20th-century altered outbuilding. At the rear, there are two upper floor 2-light casements, one of which has recessed cavetto mullions. The interior has not been inspected.
